Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely! Many attendees come solo and quickly find themselves part of the community.
On Friday evening we’ll host some relaxed games and ice-breaker activities to help everyone get to know each other before the weekend begins. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow riders, make new friends, and connect with others who ride at a similar pace or ability level.
We’ll also help riders find groups for Saturday’s rides, so whether you’re looking for a social pootle, a gravel adventure or a bigger challenge, you’ll have people to ride with.
The Wild Weekender is all about creating a friendly, supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, whether you’re arriving with friends or on your own.
Do I need to bring my own bike?
No. If you don’t have a bike, we have a limited number available to borrow during the weekend. Please get in touch before the event if you’d like to reserve one.
Will there be demo bikes available?
Yes! Reid Bikes will be joining us with a range of demo bikes for attendees to try, including electric gravel bikes and mountain bikes.
There are plenty of route options around the area, so you’ll be able to take a demo bike out for a spin and experience the local trails and roads.
I’ve never ridden gravel before. Is this event for me?
Definitely. The Wild Weekender welcomes riders of all experience levels. We’ll have a variety of route options available, from relaxed social rides to more adventurous routes, and there will be plenty of friendly faces happy to offer encouragement and advice.
If you’re curious about gravel riding but haven’t tried it before, this is a great place to start.
What kind of riding is available?
We’ll have a range of route options including:
Gravel riding
Mountain biking
Road riding
Social rides
Self-guided adventures
You can choose rides that match your confidence, experience and fitness level.
What mountain biking is available?
For those looking for a more technical mountain biking experience, Okeford Hill Bike Park is just a short ride from the event village (approximately 20 minutes by bike).
Throughout the weekend, Okeford Hill Bike Park will be offering:
Mountain bike coaching sessions
Half-day uplifts
Full-day uplifts
You can pre-order a packed lunch from our event food vendor before heading to the bike park, making it easy to spend the day on the trails.
Please note that coaching sessions and uplift passes are provided by Okeford Hill Bike Park and are not included in your Wild Weekender ticket. These activities must be booked and paid for directly with the bike park (more information to follow on how to book).
A group of attendees interested in coaching or uplift sessions will be coordinated by the Girls That Ride Bikes team and guided to Okeford Hill Bike Park each day. This makes it easy to connect with other mountain bikers, ride over together, and make the most of the trails and coaching opportunities available.
Will there be adaptive bikes available?
Yes. We’ll have a small number of adaptive bikes available to try during the weekend.
To ensure everyone gets the most from the experience, demo sessions will need to be booked in advance. If you’re interested in trying an adaptive bike, please get in touch before the event and we’ll help arrange a suitable time slot.
Whether you’re looking to explore adaptive cycling for the first time or try a different setup, we’d love to help you get involved.
Is the event accessible?
We’re committed to making the Wild Weekender as inclusive and welcoming as possible. We’ll have adaptive bikes available to try and will work with attendees to support individual accessibility requirements wherever we can.
If you have specific questions about accessibility, camping, facilities or activities, please get in touch before booking and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs.
Will there be paddleboarding (SUP)?
We’re hoping to offer a limited number of guided paddleboarding sessions on the river, led by a qualified instructor.
These sessions will be suitable for beginners and provide a relaxed opportunity to experience the local waterways. Places will be limited, and further details will be confirmed closer to the event.
If you have your own paddleboard, you’re welcome to bring it along and enjoy the water independently, subject to any site rules and conditions.
